The Department of Environmental Services has issued additional warnings on bacterial levels at swimming spots around the state.

New Hampshire Public Radio’s Kerry Grens has more.

Web resources:

Cyanobacteria
French Pond in Henniker
Showell Pond in Sandown
Sondogardy Pond in Northfield

E. coli
Pawtuckaway Lake in Nottingham
Greenfield State Park in Greenfield
Village Pond in Troy
Swanzey Lake in Swanzey
Mill Pond in East Washington

Enterococci
Jenness Beach in Rye
Pirates Cove in Rye
Cable Beach in Rye

Three ponds have demonstrated high levels of cyanobacteria, five ponds and lakes tested positive for elevated E. coli levels, and three beaches in Rye showed enterococci above state standards.

DES advises people not to swim in these waters or let their pets drink it.

The state’s Beach Program Manager Jody Connor says this has been a busier than usual summer.

Connor: Because of all the heavy rainfall we had in the area. We had a lot of runoff coming from different tributaries coming to coastal waters. Pretty good indication why problems are there, from the heavy rains.

Connor says DES staff is testing the beaches today, and beachgoers should know by Saturday whether it’s safe to go in the water.
