Camp Four, on the South Col (the pass between Everest and nearby Lhotse, the world's fourth highest mountain) is the launching pad for most summit attempts. Determination isn't enough to make the summit: since climbers can only sustain 2-3 days at this altitude, winter storms can force even the best climbers to turn back before reaching the top.
