Leonard Bernstein
By Laura Knoy on Thursday, May 11, 2006.
Leonard Bernstein has been considered one of the most influential figures in 20th century classical music. He was a conductor, educator, and composer of three symphonies, an award winning movie score and some of the most recognizable songs of American musical theater. Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Bernstein became the first American composer to attain international stardom, with everything from his Young People's Concerts to his popular stage works, to his musical intersection with some of the most historic world events of the last century. We'll explore the life, the music and the influences of Leonard Bernstein. Laura's guests are Ryan Turner, Musical Director of the Concord Chorale and an Adjunct Instructor of Voice at Boston College and Steven Ledbetter, scholar, writer, lecturer, conductor and former Musicologist and Program Annotator for the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1979 to 1998. Note: The Concord Chorale will be performing a concert entitled "The Bernstein Collection" featuring the music of Leonard Bernstein on May 13th and 14th. Steven Ledbetter will also be providing a free pre-concert lecture for this event. Click here for more information. Web resources:
