Drive and Ambition Info Depot

We estimate that "Drive and Ambition" will extend for about six months as an active project. In that time, we expect to add links and resources to this section. Of immediate interest, we thought you would want to know about the sources used in the creation of the Commuter Quiz. You can find that here.

We always hope that people will want to get involved further in the issues that matter to them. To help get you started, here's a list of groups that look forward to your participation. If we missed some, let us know.

The State's Transportation Business Plan: It's title notwithstanding, you don't need to be a business person to chime in on this process. This is probably the largest state-wide citizen planning effort on transpotation that the state has ever seen. You can see what issues came up at nine regional meetings and find out how you can plug in.

The Regional Planning Commissions: A large amount of transportation planning is guided by work done by the RPC's. This page lists them all and has links to their web sites. The RPC's in the southern part of the state have done a fair bit of work on forecasting where the worst congestion is likely to develop over the next 10-20 years. Contact them to learn more and see what groups are most active in your town or area.

A Good Guide to a Range of Local Projects and Transportation Alternatives: The State DOT assembled a good reference page with links to everything from biking to trains to major construction projects taking place across the state. It is a useful starting point if you want to learn more about work that could affect your town, or if you want to connect with specific activities such as car pooling. The links below come from this page.

Car Pooling and Other Ridesharing: If you want to explore ways to use your car less, the state has a ride share matching service. This page also has a ride share savings calculator.

Bus and Train Services: There are about a dozen public and private bus and train services in the state. This page lists them all.

Biking and Walking: A state-wide resource page. Find bike maps, biking groups, and a list of biking and walking activities here.

Seacoast Commuter Options: This is a nonprofit organization of Seacoast employers who are trying to give workers alternatives to getting to their jobs.

Upper Valley Transportation:This page from the Upper Valley Transportation Management Association gives a good overview of the work and activities in the Upper Valley, on both sides of the river of course. The group's mission is to reduce the use of single-occupant cars.
