Governor John Lynch
By Laura Knoy on Friday, March 24, 2006.
Governor Lynch's approval ratings are sky high. But that doesn't mean everything is smooth sailing. It looks like education funding is headed back to the Supreme Court and some are blaming him for the possibility that New Hampshire's "first in the nation" primary status looks threatened. We'll talk with him about this and about his major policy initiatives like raising the the high school drop out age and cracking down on sex offenders. Web resources:

Schools should NOT be funded in ANY way through the use of a property tax. This is not only archaic it is insane! Why should the amount a person pays for school-tax be based on what kind of a house they have?
Does the federal income tax base itself on what kind of a house you live in? It would make just as much sense to base the school-tax on eyecolor. Since my eyes are brown, I think all those people with Blue eyes should pay more.
What is worse, not only is the school-tax based on what kind of a house you have but it increases per $1000 your home is valued at! I am not an expert on the constitution but anyone can see there is absolutely no logical correlation between the house someone lives in and the amount of school tax they should pay.
Want some FAIR ideas for funding schools?
1. Base it on income.
2. Have every person pay the same amount.
For example: $1000 per person.
If you live alone you pay $1000. Married? than $2000
Married with a kid than $3000.
This is ONE way to get potential parents to start taking some responsibility for their choice to have babies. If prospective parent knew they would be paying an additional $1000 per year for each child, they might think twice before deciding to have that 4th or 5th kid.
Currently parents rely on the forced donations of neighbors to educate their childern. If parents were paying their fair share they might see that little Johnny is doing is homework instead of playing computer games.
It continues to amaze me that anyone in this state would want to continue the mistakes of the past.
