An increasingly common anxiety for freshly-minted undergraduates is finding a job in their field with a decent enough salary to pay off their student loans. For those with new advanced degrees, the stakes are even higher...  2008 figures from The Center for College Affordability and Productivity estimate that 16% of those qualified to be college professors, lawyers, and doctors are working jobs at the high school graduate level. Even on this side of the pond, the pomp and pageantry of Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee is making headlines. A flood warning is in effect until 6:30 am Sunday for Southern Coos, Carroll County and Northeast Grafton County, according to the National Weather Service.

The alert – which means “flooding is occurring or is imminent” – was issued about 8:30 a.m.

It was prompted after radar showed heavy rain stretching from the seacoast to The White Mountains. The weather service said it could generate an inch or two of additional rain that will cause “rapid rises” in small streams.

Two adults and four small children were rescued Friday night in the White Mountains after they became lost and were trying to light the trail with a cell phone, according to a news release from New Hampshire Fish and Game.

Lt. James Kneeland said about 9:15 p.m. Fish and Game was notified that the group has used a cell phone to call for help.

The group was composed of Josie Rogers and her husband, Christopher Kangas, of St. Johnsbury, Vt.  They were with their four children, ages eight, six, five and two.

June’s longer days also signal the end of the legislative session, but critical votes remain before the summer break.   The House and Senate have been trying to work out their differences on some difficult policy issues and on top of that, the House had a sudden change in its leadership team, with the resignation of Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt.  We'll get the latest on what's going on at the Statehouse as lawmakers wrap up their final month of law making.

Anyone who’s read Anna Quindlen’s Pulitzer Prize winning op-eds, or wildly popular  columns in the New York Times knows that she doesn’t hold back from pointed commentary on topics from politics to parenting. In the mid-nineties, Quindlen left the Times to write – so far -- ten best-selling non-fiction books and four  novels, including One True Thing, which was adapted into a film starring Meryl Streep.

Fifty years ago, Rachel Carson's book, "Silent Spring", woke the world up to the perils of chemicals that promised food crops free of disease and insects, and time outdoors free of mosquitoes. The book is credited with starting the modern environmental movement. It was the birdwatchers that first alerted the scientists about robins literally falling from the sky soon after DDT was sprayed, as well as longer-term declines in birds higher on the food chain.

Passing a voter identification law has been a priority for Republicans in Concord, but the House and Senate differed on how tough to make its requirements. The Senate supported accepting college IDs, for instance. The Senate also wanted to allow people to vote without identification if local election officials knew who they were. The House meanwhile favored allowing only government-issued IDs. It also favored  to force voter without IDs to have their picture taken before getting a ballot.

In the end, both sides got some of what they wanted.

New Hampshire's Exeter Hospital has temporarily closed its cardiac catheterization lab after four patients contracted hepatitis C, and officials are asking 651 other people who've been treated at the lab since August to get tested for the liver-destroying virus.
