The State Library in Concord has completed renovations in its second floor Map Room and, this summer the public will find an exhibit there called “Shaping our Heritage: Celebrating Traditional Arts Apprenticeships in New Hampshire.”

The first thing you notice when you walk into the State Library’s map room is the natural light.  It pours in from the white laminate skylights of the arched coffered ceiling.  Every item on display, lining the perimeter walls and the center installations, is accompanied by photographs of the artists always in pairs.

Fish and Game Department Reminds Hikers to Trek Safely

On Wednesday Fish and Game officials aided a woman at Franconia Notch when she experienced chest pains. The same day hikers helped a man who fell 20 feet down a Mount Washington trail.

The New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game’s Lieutenant Robert Bryant said hiker mishaps are a common occurrence in the summer.

This is the time of year for vacation and hiking and it’s certainly not uncommon for us to head out to help hikers.

Bryant says many problems arise from poor planning, and he offers the following tips for hikers:

Ideas from Gwarlingo

Credit bytemarks / Flickr Creative Commons

Twenty-three hundred jobs were added to New Hampshire payrolls between April and May, but the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remains stuck at 5%.

There was good news for Coos County: the North Country’s rate dipped below 8% for the first time this year.

Grafton County has the State’s lowest unemployment at 4.1%.

All in all, the data met expectations, says Bob Cote, a researcher with NH Employment Security.

The Farmer's Time Machine

Fresh vegetables aren’t the only thing local farmers put on display…at least not in Thornton, New Hampshire, where each summer, Russ Gilman hosts an antique tractor show at his family farm. While old farm machines might not be a big draw for the masses, Word of Mouth correspondent Sean Hurley goes to the show each year. Because an old tractor, as Sean explains it, can be a sort of time machine…
