Since everything we have heard from our leaders, including McCain, about the war in Iraq so far has been wrong, from the "WMD" to "Mission Accomplished" to "the Surge," we should take heart that they now tell us that withdrawing from Iraq will be a disaster, I'm sure they will be wrong about that too.
In particular, think about the two things our leaders keep repeating to us - that the Iraqi Government must "do something" and that we must "train the Iraqi Army". It is patently obvious that the Iraqi Government is incapable of doing anything other than collecting it's own paycheck. Even if they wanted to, the notion that they could do ANYTHING against the armed insurgents is pure fantasy. The other fantasy is that we need to "Train the Iraqi's". What exactly are we supposed to train them to do - occupy their own country? They certainly don't need any training with weapons or explosives, they are doing just fine on their own.
We have a couple hundred thousand soldiers there trying to control a vast country of millions - the dream that this could work and the hope that this would benefit anybody but military contractors and oil companies was preposterous to begin with. It has been an obvious and proven failure for 4 years now.
War is not a solution, and neither is MORE war. Our army in Iraq is inflaming the region. We need to bring home our troops. Our leaders need to face reality and focus their attention to the problems within our borders, not the problems of the Mideast.
