Sparrows vs. Pigeons

I bumped into Andrew in the coffee shop the other day and we discovered we were going to the same festival where Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow Quartet were performing. He said he thought the band was "amazing" and "hypnotic". Their new album is self-titled on the Nettwerk label and features Abigail Washburn on banjo and vocals, Bela Fleck on banjo, Casey Driessen on fiddle and Ben Solee on cello. So, that Sunday night, I featured the album. Honestly, I was torn.

NHPR wins two PRNDI awards

NHPR's 2007 PRNDI Awards: 1st place for Best Newscast, 2nd place for Spot News.

Our morning newscasts were judged Number 1 by the Public Radio News Directors, Inc (PRNDI). Lisa Peakes’s work won us a first place award. Nice work Lisa.

We also won a national second place award, for Newscast spots.

Pitchfork Music Festival 2008

This weekend some of the fastest rising stars in independent music shared stages with rock and hip-hop veterans for an unforgettable three days of live music. The 2008 Pitchfork Music Festival, held in Chicago's Union Park, drew tens of thousands of music fans eager to see the bands they probably learned about on Pitchfork, one of the top-read websites covering new music rarely played on radio.

New York City at night

What a day! Got into NYC early enough to miss most of the traffic, though I parked the car at a hotel and used public transport for the rest of the day. This worked well except for one stop, but more on that in a minute.
