Poetry's Next Wave

By Avishay Artsy on Friday, March 7, 2008.

Technology is allowing us to reinvent old forms of telling stories in exciting new ways. An experimental venue, Born Magazine, explores the connections between literature and visual arts. Writers are paired with graphic designers, and the collaborations result in interactive poems, where words flicker and float above Flash-animated surreal landscapes: a static-filled television screen, a misty pasture, or a menacing, sepia-toned sky.

89 Towns Put "The Pledge" to the Test at Town Meeting

By Jon Greenberg on Friday, March 7, 2008.

The Pledge has been a fixture of New Hampshire politics for more than 30 years. It is a politician’s promise to reject a sales or income tax -- or any new broad based tax of any kind. But on Tuesday, residents in 89 towns will vote on whether they want office seekers to STOP taking the pledge. New Hampshire Public Radio’s Jon Greenberg has more.

TOWN MEETING 2008

Map | About the project | Help

With help from many people we assembled a sampling of some of the items on the warrant this March. We hope you find this list helpful and we hope you will use this page to post a comment on specific items. Three big points:

  • If you post a comment, keep your subject to just one warrant article. You can post as many separate comments as you like; our goal is to keep the online discussion organized in the same way that a town meeting goes through warrant articles one at a time.
  • You can comment on any warrant article whether it is on this short list or not. The goal of this list is just to get the conversation started but you are free to draw attention to any item that you think is important.
  • If you post a comment, please give your full name at the bottom, just as you'd have to state your name at town meeting.

By Laura Knoy on Friday, March 7, 2008.

Manchester takes a stand against homelessness. The city’s mayor, Frank Guinta, recently called homelessness “unacceptable” and released his ten-year plan to end it. On Thursday's Word of Mouth, we're going to visit the National Ignition Facility in Livermore, California, where scientists will soon aim the world's largest laser at a target the size of a pencil eraser. Their goal is to create nuclear fusion. The story comes to us from reporter Amy Standen via KQED's QUEST science series.
