Light Bulbs and Hazardous Waste

You may not know this but that compact flourescent light bulb you bought to save energy contains hazardous material.

Mercury.

And by law, effective on the first of the year, you can't throw those bulbs in the trash when they go out... or break.

They must be recycled....or treated as hazardous waste.

Stephanie D'Agostino, with the Department of Environmental Services lays out the new rules for NHPR's Mark Bevis.
