Ahead in the CloudsBy Rosemary Conroy on Friday, September 7, 2007.New Hampshire's state symbols are legion, but there may be room for one more. A Letter from Iraq: Capt Tony Gagnon (Almost A Year Later)By Mark Bevis on Friday, September 7, 2007.For nearly a year, NHPR has been talking to members of the 36-43rd Company of the New Hampshire National Guard stationed in Iraq. They were assigned to guard a detention facility at Camp Victory in Baghdad. It wasn't a mission the company had a lot of training for. After all, they are a maintenance company. And it wasn't a mission the soldiers expected when they were deployed. Still, the Company's Commanding Officer, Captain Tony Gagnon brags that the men and women of the 36-43rd have done a great job.....and says soon they'll be leaving Iraq. And he tells NHPR's Mark Bevis that the soldiers are more than a little excited about coming home. Musician Ellis PaulBy Liz Bulkley on Friday, September 7, 2007.Tonight on the Front Porch, musician Ellis Paul stops by our studio with his guitar to play a few songs for us. The singer-songwriter was one of the performers who helped shape the Boston folk scene of the mid-1990s and he quickly rose to national popularity. Some say he bridges the gap between the modern folk sound and populist traditions of artists like Woody Guthrie. We'll talk with him about his work and the subtle differences he sees between being a singer-songwriter and a folk musician. Ellis Paul will perform at the Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield, Maine, on September 14th. He'll perform at the Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, New Hampshire, on September 21st. Ellis will also join Kate McNally on NHPR's Folk Show on Sunday, September 16th. |
