John Cox and his Run for the White House

Running for president as an outsider can, in some circles, be an advantage. But it’s possible to have too much of a good thing.

Illinois businessman John Cox is running for the Republican nomination. He’s never held federal or state elected office. and it’s a challenge for him to get voters and the media to see him as a viable contender.

Cox recently spent a few days in the state and crossed paths with New Hampshire Public Radio’s Jon Greenberg, who filed this report.

How to Move Back Home

Hanging out with mom and dad is becoming more complicated. That’s because many adult children are moving back into their parents’ homes. Tonight on the Front Porch, we’re going to look at why 20 and 30-somethings are heading back to the nest more than ever. We'll find out who’s doing it most and what effect the so-called Boomerang kids have on a family dynamics.

Our guest is Richard West, Professor of Communication Studies at the University of Southern Maine. He's also co-author of The Family Communication Sourcebook and Perspectives on Family Communication.

We'll also meet Mary Jo Alibrio and her daughter, Gina. Gina is 24 years old and is moving back home -- temporarily -- this Summer. Her plan is to save some money so she can move to the West Coast and pursue her singer/songwriter career. Mary Jo and Gina will help us explore the do's and don'ts of moving back in with Mom and Dad. Technology and Culture

The Apple iPhone is just the latest example of media convergence- combining different types of media into a single device. In this case…a phone, web browser and music player. But as technology becomes more and more advanced and more and more consolidated, response to it is becoming split. On the one hand you have tech-heads who love the ease and power of new technology and adopt all the newest gadgets and on the other hand you have those who are “going analog”…giving up the electronic PDA in favor of a dependable Moleskine notebook, declaring email bankruptcy and even foregoing the cell phone altogether. We’ll take a look at where technology is headed and how people are dealing with it.
