Buglers to Pay Tribute to Fallen Soldiers

Saturday is Armed Forces Day in the United States. One of the rituals observed on that day is a salute called "Echo Taps." Most of us recognize "Taps" as that melancholy melody traditionally played by buglers at military funerals, memorial services and wreath laying ceremonies.

UNH Researchers Look at Using Algae to Produce Biodiesel

As the nation looks to decrease its dependence on foreign oil and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, more alternative fuels are becoming available.

Cleaner burning biodiesel has been touted as an environmentally-friendly replacement for our 60 billion gallon a year thirst for diesel oil.

But there aren’t enough vegetable crops or land to produce enough biodiesel.

As New Hampshire Public Radio’s Amy Quinton reports, researchers at the University of New Hampshire are working on a solution– using algae.

A Letter from Iraq: Sgt Clyde Lewis

Today is Friday and that means it's the day we check in with the soldiers of the 36-43rd Company of the New Hampshire National Guard.

The 36-43rd is a maintenance company stationed in Concord, but its 150 men and women are currently in Iraq guarding a detention center outside Baghdad.

They've been there since the fall.

Today NHPR's Mark Bevis speaks with Staff Sergeant Clyde Lewis.
