Lynch Backs Off School Aid Reductions

Governor John Lynch says he's rethought the school aid package he proposed last month in his two year state budget.

Lynch had originally planned to trim 29 million dollars from the aid levels called for by current law. The governor now says he'd like to send communities the full amount they were expecting -- 527 million dollars a year.

Maine Bill Would Require College Applications

It's not easy for all high school students to move on to college.

Some are held back by money, some by a lack of education.

But over in Maine, lawmakers have introduced legislation that aims to help more graduates make it to the next step.

Maine Public Radio's Murray Carpenter reports.
