Pilot Program for Disabled Vets Teaches Them Rally Driving

For some wounded and disabled Iraq veterans, recovery can be a long road.

A pilot program in the North Country is trying to shorten that trip.

It puts vets behind the wheel of a car and teaches them to drive rally races.

But as NHPR correspondent Chris Jensen reports, the program also gives them far more.

Benson's Wild Animal Farm is Still Making News

This month marks 20 years since Benson’s Wild Animal Farm shut its doors.

If you’re a new transplant who’s never heard of it, Benson’s used to be one of the more popular tourist draws in southern New Hampshire.

But the Wild Animal Farm is once again making news.

Hudson officials want to transform the property into a town park.

But the state won’t transfer the deed unless the town makes some promises it doesn’t want to make.

NHPR Correspondent Sheryl Rich Kern files this report.

Writers on a New England Stage: Ken Burns

On Monday, award-winning documentary film maker Ken Burns addressed a live audience at the Music Hall in Portsmouth as part of our Writers on a New England Stage Series. Burns’s latest documentary, called “The War”, details the stories of soldiers, families and loved one in four American cities during the four years of American involvement in World War II. Burns' companion book to his documentary is called “The War: An Intimate History 1941-1945”. Today we play back for you part of Monday night’s event.
