Clinton Steers Clear of Press Scrum

By Josh Rogers on Thursday, October 18, 2007.

Follow presidential hopefuls around NH and open question and answer sessions with reporters are pretty common. Republican and Democratic candidates alike put them on their schedules or hold them on the fly on an almost daily basis.

But that doesn’t go for everyone, particularly the top Democrats. Neither Hillary Clinton nor Barack Obama has shown much of an appetite for wading into the press scrum, and as New Hampshire Public Radio’s Josh Rogers reports, non-negotiated access to Hillary Clinton is virtually nonexistent.

What New Hampshire Drives

By Chris Jensen on Thursday, October 18, 2007.

There's an old saying about being able to tell alot about a person by the car he or she drives.

But can you know anything about a state based on the cars found there.

NHPR Correspondent Chris Jensen took a look at what we drive here in the Granite State and files this report.

Author Chris Bohjalian and "The Double Bind"

By Liz Bulkley on Thursday, October 18, 2007.

Author Chris Bohjalian is perhaps best known for his novel "Midwives." His latest book, "The Double Bind", is based on the life of a homeless man in Vermont who left behind a legacy of museum-quality photographs of American musicians and artists. Bohjalian's book combines that man's life with the fictitious characters in the F. Scott Fiztgerald novel The Great Gatsby. We'll talk with Chris about the reality of homelessness, and the imaginary reality of Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan's legacy.

Presidential Candidates on Iraq: The Republicans

By Laura Knoy on Thursday, October 18, 2007.

The second in a two-part special this week on the Iraq war and the presidential race! We look now at the Republican candidates…who have been mostly supportive of going to Iraq in the first place, but critical of how the war has been handled since. Their positions run the gamut from immediate troop withdrawal to staying the course to a three state, one country solution to a gradual draw down of troops in favor of more Iraqi responsibility and involvement. Our guests will flesh out the differences and similarities of the candidates in the Republican field.
