Whether to Tame a Wayward River

The major rainfall of last month caused exceptional flooding in rivers across the state.

In Epsom, the Suncook River’s flooding was not only exceptional, it resulted in something none of the state’s river experts had ever seen in New Hampshire.

The river jumped its banks and carved an entirely new stretch of river outside its former floodplain.

Now, landowners, wildlife managers, geologists and town officials are left with figuring out what to do now.

New Hampshire Public Radio’s Kerry Grens has more.

Securing Cross-Border Travel

In 2004, congress passed a law that says all travelers crossing the Canadian border must have a passport. With the start-date for that plan around the corner, New Hampshire's tourism industry is getting worried. Tonight on the Front Porch, we'll find out what kind of effect the law could have on the state's economy, and what kind of technology could be used to keep cross-border traffic flowing as smoothly as possible.

We’ll look at the various interpretations of six-six-six in religion, mythology and numerology and what some people think might happen on this number-charged Tuesday. Laura's guests are Dusty Bunker, a Numerologist and New Hampshire resident and Author of several books, columnist for many magazines, including Mademoiselle, The Union Leader and the Hampton Union and Phillips Stevens, Jr., an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Buffalo in New York. He has spent twenty-five years studying religion, cults, superstition and cultural change.
