Nearly Four Years Without a ContractBy Debra Daigle on Tuesday, May 23, 2006.State officials say the Belknap County Nursing home in Laconia is no longer in danger of losing its federal funding. The state has accepted a preliminary plan to correct safety problems discovered after a resident was hospitalized with a serious bowel condition. State authorities gave the facility until September to fully implement the plan. Meanwhile, some 300 workers at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home are struggling with problems of their own. At a time when the cost of living has been increasing over 4 percent a year, health care workers at the facility have gone four years without any kind of pay raise. As NHPR Correspondent Debra Daigle reports, their union and the county have been unable to agree on a new contract. |
