What Would Murrow Do?By Laura Knoy on Wednesday, March 29, 2006.The movie "Good Night and Good Luck" has cast new life on the story of Edward R. Murrow, one of broadcast journalism's most recognizable names. We'll talk about how he changed the face of American journalism and how much of that spirit, attitude and approach exists in the U.S. media today. We'll also look at the role of media today, ask if journalists have pulled back from the Murrow approach and what Edward would think about today's media landscape if he were still alive. Laura's guest is John Irby, Associate Professor in the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at Washington State University (Murrow graduated from WSU in 1930) and Journalism Degree Program Coordinator. Irby has more than twenty five years experience in the newspaper industry as everything from reporter to editor and publisher and has written several books. |
