Vermont and New Hampshire See Increase of Number of Women Behind Bars

The number of women serving time behind bars across the country has risen dramatically over the past decade.

According to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics, the female prison population has increased nearly 50% nationally since 1995.

And surprisingly, New Hampshire and Vermont are ahead of the curve with some of the fastest growing numbers of women behind bars.

The Vermont Standard’s Kevin Forrest reports.

Telluride by the Sea, Bill Pence

The Music Hall in Portsmouth is holding the Telluride by the Sea celebration this weekend. The event has the feel of the early days of the film festival in Telluride, Colorado but takes place on a smaller scale, and involves a more indepth look at the films themselves. We'll talk with Bill Pence, the co-founder and director of Telluride who's helped bring new cinema to the Seacoast.
