Local Unions Want to Work with AFL-CIO

In Chicago, earlier this week, what was supposed to be a golden anniversary turned into a bitter divorce.

Two of the AFL-CIO's largest Unions have decided to leave the 50 year old Federation and take 3 million members with them.

Other unions may join the exodus.

But in New Hampshire, union locals want to find a way to stick together and work out differences…..if they can.

State Sees Sharp Rise in Child Poverty

The state received good news this week- a national study ranks New Hampshire number one in child well-being.

But the annual survey also reported a sharp increase in the number of kids living in poverty.

Let Fair Season Begin!

The state's fair season kicks-off this week with festivals in North Haverhill, Stratham and Canterbury. Whether you're a demolition derby person or someone who prefers livestock over Ferris wheels, chances are there's a festival out there that fits almost everybody's tastes. We'll explore this rich New Hampshire tradition with two men who've spent a lot of time at the fair: Steve Taylor is Commissioner of New Hampshire's Department of Agriculture, and Robert Lockwood is historian for the Canterbury Fair.

Eminent Domain

A recent Supreme Court decision enhanced local governments' power to seize private property for economic development. We'll look at these laws in New Hampshire, when they have been used and what effect, if any, the federal decision will have on the Granite State. Jon Greenberg guest hosts. He is joined by Mark Hodgdon, Senior Assistant Attorney General for NH, Bureau Chief of the Transportation Law Bureau and is a member of the Transportation Research Board's Eminent Domain and Land Use Committee, a division of the National Academy of Sciences. Steve Grill, an attorney with Devine Millimet who has represented both companies and individuals land use matters at the local, state and federal levels. John Ratigan, a partner with the law firm of Donahue, Tucker and Ciandella who advises municipal and private clients on several issues, including land use and eminent domain. He is the Berlin City Attorney and serves as legal counsel to the towns of Alexandria, Brentwood, Epping, Peterborough and Plymouth. We'll also hear from Mike Lorrey, Vice-Chair for the 2nd District, representing the Libertarian Party in NH and TBA.
