Goshen: A Place and Time

By Shay Zeller on Friday, December 9, 2005.

Amid the growing number of fundraising calendars featuring naked people comes something very different: the measured and stunning images of Goshen, New Hampshire. Brothers Arthur and Elmer Nelson spent their teen years photographing anything they found interesting in and around Goshen; they found a lot. It was the 1890's, and they documented some remarkable moments and times with both their photos and their journals. We'll talk with Bea Jillette, a descendant of the brothers about the work of compiling the unique social history, and with Michael Dixon, the neighbor who rescued many of the original glass plates that were headed to oblivion.

Folk/Country artist Iris Dement is in town this weekend for a concert at the Lebanon Opera House. We'll close tonight's show with her version of "The Train Carrying Jimmy Rodgers Home". The song was written by Iris' husband, Greg Brown.
