Crows are among a number of birds that practice mobbing- when a predator like a hawk or owl shows up, the crows harass it by flying nearby and basically yelling their heads off until it leaves.

Laconia Voters to Decide on Spending Cap

NEW HAMPSHIRE VOTERS HEAD TO THE POLLS TUESDAY TO DECIDE DOZENS OF LOCAL ELECTIONS, AND VOTE ON A WIDE ARRAY OF BALLOT INITIATIVES.

IN LACONIA, VOTERS COULD MAKE THEIRS THE LATEST CITY IN THE STATE TO INSTITUTE A MUNICIPAL SPENDING CAP.

SOME RESIDENTS SAY AMENDING THEIR CITY CHARTER IN THIS WAY WILL TURN THE TIDE ON THEIR EVER-RISING TAX BILLS.

BUT SOME CITY LEADERS PREDICT A CAP COULD HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES.

Race Relations in New Hampshire, 1835

In 1835, a mob of angry white men used ropes, chains and oxen to drag a racially integrated school off of its foundations and into a lake. And this happened right here in New Hampshire. We'll talk with Dartmouth historian Craig Wilder about the short and influential life of the Noyes Academy.

We'll also talk with University of New Hampshire's Don Quigley about the school's axe-throwing competition this weekend. Don is Professor Emeritus of Forestry at UNH, and he’s been throwing axes for over 30 years.

Church and Cinema

The surprising success of Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ" is just one more sign that Mainstream Hollywood, who has long shunned the pious, may be starting to embrace the church-going crowd, whether through subtle nods in films like "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" or overt imagery in films like the upcoming "Chronicles of Narnia". We'll look at this new trend in movies and see how well church and cinema may work together in the future. Laura's guest is Garen Daly, Film Commentator based in New Hampshire.
