Conservation Groups Map Ashuelot

By Rakhee Vemulapalli on Monday, August 9, 2004.

A new conservation plan for the Ashuelot River watershed is in the works.

The Nature Conservancy has joined with some local partners to develope the first comprehensive study identifying the area's natural resources.

In order to tackle such a large area, the Conservancy is employing Geographic Information Systems, or GIS mapping.

The mapping will allow the groups to be more effective in their land conservation efforts.

The Summer Sky - An Astronomy Update

By Trish Anderton on Monday, August 9, 2004.

Look up! Go out at night this August, away from the city lights and there's much to see, the Summer Milky Way, the Summer Triangle and the soon to arrive Perseid meteor showers. But beyond the naked eye, beyond even our telescopes there's a lot going on in space that might soon change the way we view the universe. Our Astronomy authority John Gianforte updates us on all the "out of this world" happenings going on right now in space... from a new nebula, to a change in the way we think of black holes, to missions on Mars, Mercury and Saturn. Trish's guest is John Gianforte, Astronomy instructor for the University System of New Hampshire's College of Lifelong Learning, Co-founder of the Astronomical Society of Northern New England and monthly astronomy columnist for Foster's Daily Democrat.
