The Ancient Games

As the Olympics return home to their Greek birthplace this year, we'll find out what the ancient games were really like. Paul Christesen is an assistant professor of Classics at Dartmouth College. He's currently writing a book about the sociopolitical context of athletics in ancient Greece. He'll tell us how the games got started, why Olympia was chosen as the stage for the first games, and why early athletes felt the need to shed their clothes before competing.

Is Stem Cell Research a Vital Campaign Issue?

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry is scheduled to visit New Hampshire to talk about healthcare on Thursday. But earlier this week his campaign took a different tack.

New Hampshire Democrats slammed President Bush's policy restricting federal grants for embryonic stem cell research. Scientists say this growing field could help develop cures and treatments. And Kerry's campaign is trying to make stem cells an issue in the presidential campaign.

New Hampshire Public Radio's Raquel Maria Dillon examines why.

Bass Faces Another Challenge on the Right

Congressman Charlie Bass faces another Second District Republican primary.

Every two years, the familiar complaints about Bass start raining down... he's pro-choice, he's a Democrat in disguise, he isn't a Congressional leader.

So far, the attacks to the incumbent's right flank have failed to defeat the popular politician.

But as New Hampshire Public Radio's Dan Gorenstein reports, State Representative Mark Brady hopes to reverse the trend.

DRED Commissioner Sean O'Kane
