DNC Wrap Up - What's Next?

The Democratic National Convention wrapped up last night in Boston. The much-hyped event was four days of endless cheering, political signage and party unity; all culminating last night with John Kerry's speech officially accepting his party's nomination for president. With the fanfare over and the election still 95 days away, we'll recap the high and not-so-high points of the DNC, ask what was accomplished and where John Kerry and the Democratic Party goes from here. John Lynch Stump Speech

Promoting the New Hampshire Primary

New Hampshire delegates to the Democratic convention in Boston are on a mission perhaps only slightly less important than nominating their candidate for president. They are emissaries in the cause of protecting the state's first in the nation primary. The New Hampshire Political Library has armed them with a small booklet whose title describes the state as "The time tested presidential primary proving ground".

New Hampshire at the Democratic Convention

Thirty-Four delegates are representing New Hampshire at this week's Democratic National Convention. We'll talk to two of them. Ray Buckley is a state Representative from Manchester and a DNC veteran. He'll tell us all about the five previous conventions he's been to since 1980 and what it's like to be a 20 year old in the heart of the action. We'll also check in with alternate delegate Josh Glasheen, who's attending his very first national convention.

Maine Group Registering Thousands

They're supposed to be some of the most disenfranchised voters in America...

But in Maine this summer, two dozen 20-somethings are undertaking what's believed to be one of the most aggressive voter registration drives that state has ever seen.

So far, the non-partisan campaign by the Maine People's Resource Center says it has signed up 4300 new voters since June.

And as Maine Public Radio's Susan Chisholm reports they have an ambitious goal over the next two months.

New Hampshire Dems Keeping Up With National Fundraising Trend

The Federal Election Commission has released campaign finance figures for the first half of this year.

And for the first time in more than a decade, Democrats are outraising Republicans.

Presidential challenger John Kerry and his Democratic party have raised just over 290 million dollars, 20 million more than President Bush and the GOP.

And as NHPR's Mark Bevis reports, the Granite State is following suit.
