Families of 94th Go To Washington

Families from New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts travelled by bus to Washington to lobby the Pentagon yesterday.

They want to bring home the 94th Military Police Company.

The company is based in Londonderry, New Hampshire and is currently on duty in Iraq.

The families complain that the 94th has done more than their share, and they want their loved ones home.

New Hampshire Public Radio's Washington Correspondent Priscilla Huff met up with the families after they met with Pentagon officials.

She filed this report.

NH Democrats and the Income Tax

There's one big issue dividing the two Democrats running for governor this election year: the income tax. John Lynch says he'll oppose it, Paul McEachern says he'll support it, continuing a long running debate among New Hampshire Democrats over whether the state should adopt an income tax. We'll talk about why the issue comes up every election year and ask where New Hampshire voters stand on the income tax today. Mike's guests are Mark Fernald, lawyer from Peterborough, former Democratic gubernatorial candidate and member of the New Hampshire Progressive Network and Jim Normand, attorney in Manchester, former Executive Councilor, and former Democratic gubernatorial candidate.

The Segway and Beyond

Dean Kamen made national headlines when he released the Segway Human Transpoter two years ago, but he was known to New Hampshire residents long before that. Dean had previously invented a number of revolutionary medical devices like a portable dialysis machine, the world's first insulin pump for diabetics, and the I-BOT wheelchair which can climb stairs. Dean is also the founder of
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) an organization which gets young people interested in science, engineering and invention. Dean talks about the future of the Segway, his passion for getting young people involved in science and his plans to bring water and electricity to the most remote areas of the developing world.

Mt. Sunapee Managers File Plan for New Ski Trails

The company that runs the Mount Sunapee ski resort has presented its five year plan to New Hampshire officials.

The company proposes creating 75 acres of new ski trails, and building as many as 250 new condominiums.

But a group of citizens who live near the mountain oppose those plans.
