1st Anniversary of Prison Break Sees Progress.

A YEAR AGO ON JUNE 4TH, THREE MEN BROKE OUT OF THE STATE PRISON IN CONCORD.

POLICE CAUGHT THEM IN MASSACHUSETTS A FEW DAYS LATER.

BUT THE ESCAPE POINTED OUT A NUMBER OF SECURITY PROBLEMS AT THE STATE'S LARGEST PRISON.

BUT AS NEW HAMPSHIRE PUBLIC RADIO'S MARK BEVIS REPORTS, MANY OF THOSE PROBLEMS HAVE SINCE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF.

High School Dropouts

The 2004 "Kids Count" Data Book has just come out and New Hampshire did quite well, ranking among the top in almost area except for one? High School Dropouts. The report states that 9 percent of teens 16-19 in the Granite State have dropped out of schools in the past year, up 50% from five years ago. Other recent studies place the statewide dropout rate as high as a 25%. We'll look into what's behind these numbers and into how we can keep our kids in school. Mike's guests are Steve Varnum, Director of Public Policy for The Children's Alliance of New Hampshire, Nicholas Donohue, Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Education. Budget Report Forecasts Big Deficit

NH Birders Hold 24 Hour Contest

Memorial Day Weekend is time to watch parades, have cookouts, and celebrate the first weekend of summer.

But for two dozen die hard New Hampshire bird watchers, the weekend was not time for relaxing.

They took part in New Hampshire Audubon's "Birdathon".

Their goal was to find as many bird species as they could in 24 hours.

New Hampshire Public Radio's David Darman joined one of the teams, and filed this report.
