Section 8 Changes Leave Many Worried

By Dan Gorenstein on Monday, June 21, 2004.

In an effort to control costs, Washington has changed the funding formula for Section 8 vouchers.

Section 8 is a federal subsidy that helps people afford low-income housing.

Because of the change, local housing officials are facing budget shortfalls that could force up rents as soon as July.

And those who have spent years on a waiting list for a Section 8 voucher are being told they'll have to wait even longer.

New Hampshire Public Radio's Dan Gorenstein has this report.

Painting Divides Town

By Lisa Peakes on Monday, June 21, 2004.

A group of friends bought a painting of the Madonna and child for 32 hundred dollars at a Dublin Community Church auction last summer.

Turns out the painting is the lost third of a 14th century panel.

Sotheby's Auction House in New York sold it for nearly a half million dollars.

Morning Edition host Lisa Peakes talks with Rick O'Connor, one of the 6 friends who bought the painting, about how the purchase has caused a rift in the town.
