Heroin Addiction in NH

Heroin is becoming a growing problem in New Hampshire. It is cheap and readily available. We'll look at how law enforcement is dealing with the issue and also how hotbed areas like the Seacoast and towns like Nashua and Salem are addressing the problem. Mike Arnold's guest is Riley Regan, Director of the New Hampshire Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Recovery, which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services. We'll also hear from William Baker, Police Chief in Seabrook, Jacqui Abikoff, Executive Director of Horizons Counseling Center in Gilford and also President of the NH Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors Association, and Sergeant Ellen Arcieri with the New Hampshire State Police Narcotics Investigation Unit.

On Pointe with Edra Toth

Edra Toth's family settled in the Boston area after escaping the fall of the Iron Curtain in Hungary in 1956. There, she studied ballet with E. Virginia Williams and made her debut with the Boston Ballet at the young age of 13. By 16, she was promoted to Prima Ballerina and at 18, she danced with Rudolf Nureyev. She went on to enjoy a 30 year career in dance. Today she runs The Edra Toth Academy of Dance and Music in Wolfeboro. She strives to make dance accessable to all children by offering scholarships and doing fundraising.

NH High Court Hears Dispute Over Chief Justice

New Hampshire?s Supreme Court today heard arguments in a dispute over which branch of government gets to pick the Chief Justice.

Milford Residents Want a Civil Liberties Safe-Zone

Some Milford residents are working to make their town what they call a Civil Liberties Safe-Zone.

They want Milford to denounce parts of the Patriot Act that they believe infringe on their rights.

If successful, Milford would become the third community in the state, and one of almost three-hundred nationwide, to adopt this kind of resolution.

New Hampshire Public Radio correspondent Shannon Mullen has the story.
