ArchivesAnd the endorsements keep rolling in...By Beth Todgham on Thursday, January 8, 2004.The inbox of my e-mail held a surprising endorsement today. Madonna has come out in support of Wesley Clark. Imagine that! The endorsement of Dean by Al Gore and Bill Bradley did nothing to sway me towards the Vermont governor. Somehow knowing that the Material Girl believes in Clark doesn't offer any credible reason for me to cast my vote for the General come election day. I wonder how that works. Did the Clark campaign actively solicit Madonna's support? Did they put her on a preferred mailing list and actually work to get her into their camp? Or did she call up the campaign office one day and offer her support. Did the campaign worker insist that she sing a few bars of "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" to confirm that it was really her? You Can't Predict AnythingBy Rosalyn Middleton on Thursday, January 8, 2004.Here's an interesting encounter I had: Dan is a registered Republican who asked me today to find out how he could change his party affiliation. I asked if this was a ploy to get votes for the person he thought would be the weakest opponent for Bush. He said not at all. He thinks Gephardt is the only Democrat who stands a chance of beating Bush this fall and he wants to help make him the nominee. He said he like he liked Carol Mosley -thought she was bright and articulate- but didn't feel he could afford to waste his vote when we need to get Bush out at all costs. His next choice is Kerry. P Day Minus 20 Days and still undecidedBy Beth Todgham on Thursday, January 8, 2004.With less than three weeks until the Primary, our neighbors still haven't decided who they are going to vote for. They've narrowed the field and eliminated a few of the candidates but have yet to make a final decision. That's extremely unusual for them. They don't always agree on who they're going to vote for, but are usually strongly commited to a candidate by this time in the process. When I tried to press the husband on when he will be making his decision, he laughed and said the it might be when he walks in the voting booth on January 27. General Wesley ClarkBy Laura Knoy on Thursday, January 8, 2004.In our second interview with Democratic Presidential candidate General Wesley Clark, we dive into the issues. We'll talk about everything from foreign policy to education and healthcare. Poems from a Hardscrabble LifeBy John Walters on Thursday, January 8, 2004.Award-winning poet Wesley McNair was born in Newport, New Hampshire and lived most of his life in the Granite State. His latest collection, Fire, was the co-winner of the Jane Kenyon Award for Oustanding Book of Poetry. Many of the poems were inspired by his hardscrabble youth in New Hampshire. Democrats Torn on Trade IssueBy Dan Gorenstein on Thursday, January 8, 2004.For the past year, Democratic presidential hopefuls have hammered George Bush and each other over trade policies. They point to an increasing trade deficit but also to the steady flow of manufacturing and high-tech jobs moving overseas. They promise to stem that tide by crafting more favorable trade deals for the U.S. New Hampshire Public Radio?s Dan Gorenstein has looked at the candidate?s positions on international trade and files this report. |
