Undecided again!By Pat Barss on Thursday, January 22, 2004.Before tuning in to the "last debate before the NH Primary" I thought I had pretty much made up my mind about who I was going to vote for - now I find myself wavering again - I am less unhappy about this than I am frustrated - Glad that there are several candidates that I like and actually believe embrace some of my "values" - I am frustrated that the choice is going to be difficult for me and I might not even know until I walk into that booth next Tuesday. Hopefully I can get a Iowa SummaryBy Chris Martin on Thursday, January 22, 2004.I'm still recovering from the the Iowa caucuses and the avalanche of ads in the final weeks. For the record, about $9 million was spent on TV ads in Iowa for the campaigns -- more than $100 for each caucus voter. Some details and observations: The ads were nearly all TV and direct mail -- little radio or newspaper. The direct mail ads were much more harsh on competitors than TV ads. Charm SchoolBy Ted Jastrzembski on Thursday, January 22, 2004.Kerry has momentum and the headlines but the real story now might be Edwards. His more positive, less combative message is setting him apart from the others. What I'm hearing is that his boyish earnestness, with a touch of Carolina drawl, is working for both women and men who are still trying to make up their minds. One woman I spoke with who offered Edwards up as her most likely choice, said there was just something about him she believed, trusted, and liked. "Charmed" might have been the word she wanted to use, but of course she didn't. Many of us buy into the common wisdom that Edwards is in fact running for the VP slot, which also sets him up nicely for '08. In our third interview with North Carolina Senator John Edwards, we'll dig deeper into the issues and look at the campaign trail. Kerry, Clark Aim to Rally the TroopsBy Trish Anderton on Thursday, January 22, 2004.Pollsters say New Hampshire?s military veterans tend to vote Republican. But this year Democratic candidates are hoping to change that. Two major Democratic contenders have extensive military experience. They?re trying to parlay success on the battlefield into success at the ballot box. NHPR?s Trish Anderton reports. |
