ArchivesUndecideds StillBy Ted Jastrzembski on Monday, January 12, 2004.In collaring a few "undecideds" for their leanings at this point in the race they are telling me they are still pretty much undecided. The problem they say is that they want a composite candidate, that no one candidate has grabbed them to the extent that it pushes the others to the side. And surprising to me that the indecision isn't based so much on candidate positions on issues, but rather on style and background--and can they beat GWB. One composite I heard was Clark (international/military), Dean (fire and intensity), and Edwards (articulate and smooth). But I think this one is leaning toward Edwards. Only 15 days left to the NH PrimaryBy Pat Barss on Monday, January 12, 2004.Signs are popping up everywhere - I can hardly walk down Elm Street in Manchester without walking through a group of supporters of one candidate or another! Last Sunday I came home to 5 different sets of literature from 3 different candidate (Reps for Kerry actually came twice) - I am getting CD's explaining positions - and telephone calls daily! I am still frustrated with some of the responses I am getting from regular working folk like me as to who they are looking at in the Primary. I am really amazed at the number of people I have talked to that say they don't vote in the national elections - that they do notfeel that their vote matters!!!! I seem to be spending most of my time encouraging others just to vote - nevermind who they may consider voting for and why - Delegates to Democratic Convention in BostonBy Pat Barss on Monday, January 12, 2004.Last Saturday I participated in a caucus that elected 4 female and 3 male Delegates from Region 1 in New Hampshire to represent Gephardt at the Democratic Convention in Boston. This was a first for me. Not only a very interesting opportunity to learn more about the process but to talk to people too. Of course I was talking to only Gephardt supporters and able to gather more information about him but in the process one person I talked to was able to sum up for me what I have been feeling about Howard Dean all along - I was one of those people that just could not warm up to him, but this non-union person I talked to said it all - that Dean reminded him of the kid who was always picked on at school and always said just wait and see, when he grew up he'd show them! Decisions, decisionsBy Beth Todgham on Monday, January 12, 2004.My husband has been driving around with a Dean sticker on the back of his car since late last fall. But when the opportunity came up last Friday night to go see John Edwards speak at a town hall meeting in Nashua, he jumped at the chance. We went separately and he arrived just before me. The meeting was scheduled to start at 7pm. At 6:50, the room was still pretty empty and we had no problem getting front row seats. We questioned what kind of a crowd he was going to draw. Youth VoteBy Laura Knoy on Monday, January 12, 2004.College-aged students are often considered apathetic towards the political process. But last week one thousand first time voters descended on Manchester to participate in a convention on issues important to them. They have been seriously affected by 9-11, and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and may take those concerns to the polls in 2004. We?ll find out what motivates these 18-24 years olds and how their votes might effect the upcoming elections. Laura's guests are Tom Patterson, professor of government and the press at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Wayne Lesperance, political science professor at New England College, Guillermo Cornado, student at Harvard University, and Laena Salin, student at St. Anselm College. Other guests are TBA. TV Star Mike O'MalleyBy John Walters on Monday, January 12, 2004.Mike O'Malley is one of the stars of the television series Yes, Dear.
