Second Glance

Jodi Picoult had always wanted to write a ghost story. She has done it with her 10th novel, Second Glance. Strange things start to happen in a small Vermont town when a piece of land is developed against the will of the local Abenaki. Through her book Jodi Picoult explores paranormal activity, the history of the Abenaki and the Vermont eugenics project of the 1930's.

UNH Gains New Respect

Last week was a pretty good week for the University of New Hampshire.
The federal government formally recognized the school�s excellence in marine research. The publisher of an influential guide to colleges announced it no longer recognized U-N-H as a �party school.� �Welcome� signs went up all over campus, to mark the arrival of what school officials say is one of the strongest freshman classes ever.
In many respects, The University of New Hampshire appears poised to take its place among the best research universities in the nation.
But the folks back home don�t seem all that impressed.

Women and the Ballot Box

Suffragists won the right to vote 83 years ago this week. We'll look at how women cast their ballots today, how candidates try to appeal to them and the so called "gender gap". Laura's guests are Debbie Walch, Director of the Center for American Women and Politics, part of the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University and Nora Bredes, Director of the Anthony Center for Women's Leadership at the University of Rochester.
