ArchivesChildhood ObesityBy Laura Knoy on Tuesday, July 29, 2003.One quarter of the New Hampshire's children are overweight or at risk. Researchers, teachers and state officials met earlier this month at "New Hampshire Healthy Schools Day" to talk about strategies for dealing with the problem. One approach is to get schools and families working together to promote better nutrition and more exercise for kids. Our guests are Tamara Martin, a research assistant professor in the Department of Health Management and Policy at the University of New Hampshire; and Rae Pica, author of YOUR ACTIVE CHILD: HOW TO BOOST PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, AND COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH AGE-APPROPRIATE ACTIVITY. We'll take a look at the growing problem of childhood obesity and what is being done today to help combat the problem. Guests TBA. |
