Healthcare Dispute Leads to Public Campaign

Contract disputes between hospitals and insurance companies aren’t all that unusual in New Hampshire.

But the current impasse between Lakes Regional General Healthcare and Anthem Insurance has gotten off to a different start.

Usually, parties keep negotiation details quiet.

Here, both sides have taken their dispute public very aggressively and very early in the negotiations.

And that leaves some observers wondering if this disagreement might end up differently than the others.

2.7 Billion Dollar Budget Moves on to Senate

The New Hampshire house yesterday passed a 2.7 billion dollar general fund budget that does not include a proposed 39 cent hike in the cigarette tax. House GOP leadership says the budget is a responsible proposal that can fund state services and avoid a threatened veto from Governor Craig Benson. But Democrats and some moderate Republicans say the budget will cut crucial state services and hurt those most in need.

NH in the Boston Marathon

The 107th running of the Boston Marathon is on Monday.

When the starting cannon goes off at noon, SOME 350 runners from the Granite State will attempt the historic 26.2-mile course.

NHPR correspondent Brian McWilliams caught up with a few of them.
