You Call That an Apology?

Howard Dean must have been feeling the heat if he finally decided to apologize for his ridiculous remarks about wanting to represent the "guys with Confederate flags on their pickup trucks." He thought he was appealing to Southern whites, but he offended them, African-Americans in all 50 states and just about everyone, too.
Forget what some political types are saying about other missteps having only made Dean and his campaign stronger. This was a big mistake. It also tells you that Dean is a just one more run-of-the-mill politician who puts ambition above principle. And it's causing some real doubts among the idealistic Democrats who go to the caucuses to support pure liberal candidates.

Documenting Goshen's Veterans

In 1940, the rural farming community of Goshen, New Hampshire numbered 342 citizens. The town sent 45 men and 1 woman to the Second World War. The new documentary Stories from Silence, Witness to War illuminates the powerful, private experiences of these veterans. Director Deborah Scranton van Paassen is a Goshen native.
The film is being shown as part of the Somewhat North of Boston Film Festival (S.N.O.B.) which runs November 6-9 at NHTI in Concord.
