ArchivesSong and SpiritBy John Walters on Friday, November 21, 2003.The Funky Divas of Gospel have been filling the seacoast with the sound and spirit for several years. Their songs are uplifting and life-affirming, but are not all from the Christian tradition. They have a new double CD out called Don’t Stop at Half. They are also performing this Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist church in Portsmouth. We talk with co-founders Mary Edes, who is also choir director and a UU minister, and Jim MacDougall, choir leader and keyboard player. Neighborhood Markets Don't Feel SqueezeBy Rebecca Kaufman on Friday, November 21, 2003.Earlier this month, Manchester’s South Willow Street became home to a new Shaws supermarket. Last summer the state’s first Super Stop and Shop moved in just down the road. These new grocery stores offer customers everything from bread to sushi to linens to c.d’s… They even offer babysitting for parents who want to shop in peace. As New Hampshire Public Radio Correspondent Rebecca Kaufman discovered, neighborhood stores don’t need to offer gimmicks to bring customers in. Leaving Nothing to Chance?By Eric Woolson on Friday, November 21, 2003.I'll give Howard Dean's Iowa campaign credit: either they are way off the track and wasting their time or they are leaving nothing to chance and they have the people power to cover all their bases. Knowing that Democrats call Democrats and Republicans call Republicans, she explained she's a registered Republican and actually thanked the Dean caller for caring enough to volunteer. Of course, I immediately started teasing my wife, Debora, that she must have registered as a Democrat and she just wasn't telling me the whole story.
