Modern Housewifery

By Laura Knoy on Friday, October 10, 2003.

The role of the housewife has changed considerably since the days of Erma Bombeck, ironing curtains, and making the perfect upside-down cake. The modern-day housewife (or at-home mother) hires a housekeeper, home schools and organizes child play groups. We're reconsidering the idea of housewifery. Laura's guest is Caitlin Flanagan, contributing editor of the Atlantic Monthly and author of a forthcoming book about modern motherhood. Click here to read her article "Housewife Confidential" . Other guests TBA.
