ArchivesHealthcare SimulationBy Raquel Maria Dillon on Friday, October 10, 2003.Almost one in 10 New Hampshire residents does not have health insurance. Yesterday, the state’s dominant insurer, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, invited healthcare leaders from around the state to find out what that feels like. New Hampshire Public Radio’s Raquel Maria Dillon has more. Who can eat what and why?By Rosemary Conroy on Friday, October 10, 2003.This was a great year for mushrooms, so why don't we run out and pick them? Probably because you know better. Rosemary Conroy explores what makes our digestive system different from wild animals that eat any mushroom they wish. It is recycling day . . .By Pat Barss on Friday, October 10, 2003.I do not think there is a day that has gone by that I have not returned home and found literature on my doorstep advocating for one of the Democratic candidates for president. I actually had a visit from a "Texas Ranger" seeking my support for Howard Dean. On the rare occaision that I have been here and actually spoken to any of these street walkers I have been most impressed with what the Kerry advocates have said (and done). Two women approached me one day while I was out mowing the lawn. I told them what issues were most important to me in a candidate and within 3 days I received a letter in the mail answering my questions (and only my questions) in more detail. These women, who were from Conneticut, must have taken notes, took the time to find out who I was and made sure I got the information, accompanied by a personalized note! It felt like a war zoneBy Pat Barss on Friday, October 10, 2003.President Bush came to Manchester New Hampshire yesterday (after visiting the Airforce Base in Portsmouth) My office is located next to the Center of NH where he was scheduled to speak. With the number of military helicopters flying (low) over head it felt like a war zone! A co-worker of mine was stopped by the Secret Service on her way to the bank and was not allowed access! On the 11:00 news the ShirtsleevesBy Chris Martin on Friday, October 10, 2003.As the saying goes, the devil is in the details. Perhaps the symbolic communication by candidates is in the details, too. So, I want to write about shirtsleeves. Laugh, you may, but I think the way the candidates roll up their sleeves says something. (A caveat: This generally refers to male candidates, since rolling up sleeves is mostly a masculine style. But I bet, given the chance, Carol Moseley Braun can roll up her sleeves better than most of the guys.) Modern HousewiferyBy Laura Knoy on Friday, October 10, 2003.The role of the housewife has changed considerably since the days of Erma Bombeck, ironing curtains, and making the perfect upside-down cake. The modern-day housewife (or at-home mother) hires a housekeeper, home schools and organizes child play groups. We're reconsidering the idea of housewifery. Laura's guest is Caitlin Flanagan, contributing editor of the Atlantic Monthly and author of a forthcoming book about modern motherhood. Click here to read her article "Housewife Confidential" . Other guests TBA. What Curse?By John Walters on Friday, October 10, 2003.The Red Sox are battling the Yankees in the playoffs and we?re devoting a show to the Olde Towne Team.
