The Benson Appointments

By Jon Greenberg on Tuesday, January 7, 2003.

One of the many jobs facing Craig Benson will be to nominate people to fill four vacant offices. A new attorney general. A director of revenue administration -- that’s the state’s chief tax collector. A new commissioner for the department of environmental services. And the top executive for health and human services, the state’s largest agency.

Former house speaker, Donna Sytek, tells NHPR’s Jon Greenberg there are clear policy choices behind all nominations. And she says recent experiences at HHS underscore how different those choices can be.

On Thursday, Governor Benson is expected to lay out his vision for the next two years. But in preparation NHPR has produced this look back at some of the things Craig Benson said he wants to accomplish.
