Dean and Religion

Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean has taken criticism for talking about the role of religion in his life. Faith has never been a prominent feature of Dean's public image. Some have seen his recent statements as pandering to religious voters, especially in the South.

Steve Zind of Vermont Public Radio took a look at Dean's relationship with faith. He found a long-standing involvement with the Congregationalist Church, but a more distant connection with scripture itself.
