Purly Gates

Purly Gates is a folksinger, songwriter, instrument maker, storyteller, and educator from Langdon, New Hampshire...and Texas...and New Hampshire. She performs in the usual settings and also does a lot of music presentations for kids in schools as well as workshops for teachers and librarians. She talks about what she's up to and how she got that name.

Grocery Goes Green

Every week, the average supermarket generates 15 tons of waste. And every week, that same average market dumps those 15 tons into a local landfill?or incinerator. But one local New Hampshire supermarket using new technology is turning most of their organic waste into compost. And it?s saving thousands of dollars in the process. NHPR?s Dan Gorenstein has the story.

Golden Eagles
