A Native American in Modern Medicine

Lori Arviso Alvord was born on a Navajo reservation in New Mexico. She beat the odds of reservation life and became the first Navajo woman in the field of surgery. She works at Dartmouth and she has a vision for health care that combines western technology with traditional healing techniques. Her 1999 memoir is called "The Scalpel and the Silver Bear."

House Redistricting Goes Before Supreme Court

Lawmakers Agree to Fund HHS

House and Senate Lawmakers have filled a $17.5 Million gap in the Department of Health and Human Services Budget. Without the funds, the state would have been shore on cash to pay health care costs for poor and elderly. NHPR's Mark Bevis reports.
