Two Fiddles

Dudley and Jaqueline Laufman call themselves "Two Fiddles." They are doing their best to keep New England country dance traditions alive and well by performing, recording, teaching, and writing. Education Speak for the Rest of Us

Most people know that the 3 R�s stand for reading, writing and �rithmatic. But the buzz words of education have moved beyond simple word play. Now, children in New Hampshire classrooms deal with �rubrics� and �writing prompts�. To help close the gap between the language of educators and the language of the general public, NHPR has begun collecting words for a glossary called �Education Speak for the Rest of Us.� NHPR�s Jon Greenberg started the effort.

County Approves Jail Expansion

Merrimack County lawmakers have approved a 24-point-two million dollar renovation and expansion of the County Jail in Boscawen. County officials say the project will enable them to house inmates in better conditions and offer more rehabilitation programs. NHPR?s Trish Anderton reports.
