A Teenage Escape from World War II

Francis de Marneffe is now retired and living in New Hampshire, but in 1940 he was a 16 year old in Belgium when the Nazis invaded. He became separated from his family and, left to his own devices, he made his way through France to the relative safety of Britain. He didn't see his family again until 1945. Francis recalls his war time experiences in a new memoir called "The Last Boat from Bordeaux" (Coolidge Hill Press).

Asthma

New Plan to Zone Oceans has Friends and Foes

The federal government is undertaking a groundbreaking effort to inventory and strengthen marine protected areas from Maine to Alaska.
Such areas include national seashores, state beaches, recreational fishing areas and marine reserves.
The aim is to make it easier to manage the nation's marine resources.
But as Maine Public Radio's Susan Chisholm reports, not everyone applauds the move.

Child Poverty Statistics Show Worrying Trend in NH

The U.S. Census Bureau has just released 1998 poverty statistics for each of the nation?s 3,141 counties.
The numbers for NH show an increase over last year.
The highest rate, 17.4% was in Coos County.
Rockingham County had the lowest at 7.3%.

She speaks with NHPR?s Lisa Peakes about the statistics.

Claremont Case Back in Court

The landmark Claremont education funding case goes back to court tomorrow. The five towns that successfully sued the state over school taxes in 1997, say the Governor and legislature aren?t complying with the ruling.
