The Land at the Northern Tip of NH

Conservation groups and the state and federal government are working to preserve the 171,000 acres of International Paper land that lies at the tip of New Hampshire. Part of it will be set aside as a nature preserve and most will be managed by the Lyme Timber Company under a conservation easment. We learn about the company and its mission from general partner Peter Stein.

New Film on International Paper Land Proposal

State lawmakers were treated to a short film yesterday designed to sell them on the Connecticut Lakes Headwaters Project. That�s the plan for 170 thousand acres of North Country forest that International Paper has put up for sale. NHPR�s Doug MacPherson reports.

House Republicans Plan Vote against NH High Court

House Republicans plan an important vote today after the Governor gives her State of the State Address. A non-binding resolution sponsored by Enfield Representative Paul Mirski declares that the State Supreme Court's Claremont decisions are unconstitutional. Mirski, who likes to compare HCR14 to the Declaration of Independence, described the resolution to NHPR's Trish Anderton. The bill needs only a simple majority to pass.
