Forest Fires

By Laura Knoy on Monday, August 20, 2001.

Recently, dry weather and lightning strikes have helped fuel wildfires around New England. But fortunately, fire here is much less volatile than the raging wildfires out West. We’ll talk about how the regions differ, and we’ll learn how fires start, how they’re controlled, and their role in forest ecology. Trish’s guests are Bud Nelson, chief of forest protection at the New Hampshire Division of Forest and Lands www.nhdfl.org, and Tom Brady, fire program leader for the New England National Forest www.fs.fed.us .
