In fact, purple loosestrife has been called ?the beautiful killer.? ?Killer? because the purple flowering plant can completely take over a wetland, killing off all other species. Town Rallies for General StoreBy Trish Anderton on Thursday, July 19, 2001.This week the Sandwich General Store opened its doors for the first time since thanksgiving. Many people in Sandwich were upset last year when the store closed. They felt the town had lost an important gathering place. A handful of investors and a number of volunteers have spent the past few months renovating the store and reviving its finances.
